YouTube playlists exist as long as YouTube itself.

They are a great way to organize a long list of videos in a specific way you imagined it.

They are also a neat tool for content creators who want to create a series of videos in relation to a specific topic from their channel.

It’s a great way to promote content, keep the users engaged and on the platform, and boost the overall view count of each video in the playlist.

Playlists are also perfect for the average viewer.

With a playlist, you can arrange your videos to be played in a row, with an autoplay setting immediately enabled.

It saves a lot of time, but it also raises certain questions, one of which is related to how many playlists can you create on YouTube.

💡
Quick answer: There’s no limit to how many YouTube playlists you can create as a free user of the platform.

Even though that may be the official YouTube rule, we are interested in investigating whether that is actually true.

Also, while we are on the subjects of playlists, and its possible limitations, let’s discuss a few more intriguing questions!

Do Playlists Have a Limit?

While the official YouTube explanation says you can create an unlimited number of playlists, it doesn’t mean that each playlist can hold an unlimited number of videos.

Playlists have a limit of 5,000 videos per each playlist.

This limit seems like more than enough; the process of adding 5,000 videos manually will take plenty of time for anyone.

By analyzing a number of YouTube playlists, we tend to see that users and creators generally do not add anywhere near that number of videos. Average playlist is usually in the range of 100-500 videos.

How Many Playlists Can You Have on YouTube Music?

YouTube Music is YouTube’s premium subscription service, allowing for plenty of benefits for a relatively small price.

The rule of unlimited playlists stays true for YouTube Music. However, when thinking about creating a higher number of playlists, you should consider the potential organizational drawbacks.

YouTube music is the platform mainly used on smaller screens, which makes navigation through a higher number of playlists a tad harder.

Is There a Limit to How Many Playlists You Can Make Per Day?

Technically, there is no limit to the number of playlists you can create within 24 hours.

However, if you do start creating a lot of playlists in a short amount of time, your Google account will get flagged.

YouTube does not let bot accounts operate and create unnecessary server costs by doing bot activities. These can be:

  • Uploading a high number of videos in a short period of time.
  • Creating a high number of playlists in a short period of time.
  • Leaving hundreds upon hundreds of comments, again, in a short period of time.

And likely much more.

YouTube has come a long way in detecting spam activity and has algorithms in place that do a great job of detecting and filtering spam activity.

So, if you employ a tool to create a lot of playlists or do activities that YouTube will flag as “non-human”, you can expect to go through the process of additional account verifications or even face possible account suspension.

Do Playlists on YouTube Make Money?

No, if you are a user who has created playlists and added other people’s content, you will not make money from it.

In general, YouTube loves users utilizing playlists because that leads to an increase in the average time each user spends on the platform.

However, that still does not incentivize YouTube enough to start paying users to do it, especially because users are adding other people’s content.

But, if you are a content creator that is creating playlists and adding your own content, you will make money from it each time your video is viewed, with the same ad rates as usual.

Do Youtubers Get Notified When You Add Their Video to a Playlist?

No, there’s no mechanism that allows YouTube to track and share personal information of users who save videos.

Bottom Line

Testing out how many playlists you can create might be a useful project, because even though Google claims the number is unlimited, we have our own doubts.

In this day and age, every big tech company wants to preserve server resources, so limiting the number of playlists you can create per day (or the total number of it) is certainly part of YouTube’s algorithm.

But that is fine - number of features and options you get on a free YouTube account is immense, and you can still likely create more playlists than you actually need.
